Having already played their initial matches in the ongoing Cricket World Cup, New Zealand, and the Netherlands are set to face each other on Monday, entering the tournament's deeper phase.
In their opening encounter, New Zealand faced defending champions England, defeating the 2019 winners by nine wickets and showcasing their determination to progress in the tournament. Despite England posting a competitive 282 for nine, New Zealand successfully chased down the target in 36.2 overs, with Devon Conway (152 not out) and Rachin Ravindra (123 not out) delivering stellar performances. Notably, New Zealand achieved this victory without their regular captain Kane Williamson, who is still recovering from an ACL injury sustained during the IPL earlier this year. Tom Latham, who led the team against England, will continue as captain against the Netherlands, as Williamson is yet to regain full match fitness, according to Kiwi head coach Gary Stead.
Tim Southee's participation remains uncertain due to his recovery from a broken and dislocated thumb, but fellow speedster Lockie Ferguson is expected to be available pending a fitness test on Sunday.
On the other hand, the Netherlands faced a challenging match against Pakistan, which they lost by 81 runs. Despite early success in dismissing three Pakistani batters during the powerplay, the Dutch team fell short. While their bowling appears stable, the Dutch batting, particularly in the middle order, lacks consistency. Captain Scott Edwards has struggled to reach the 30-run mark in the last four ODIs.
